Learning

'Cherish and nurture, flourish and aspire'

Our school vision is to be 'a joyful community of lifelong learners, to live with love and purpose, as we grow and flourish together' summarised in our school motto, 'Cherish and nurture, flourish and aspire.'

Learning at Wrington is informed by this vision. Learning does not finish at the end of the school day but we hope that the seeds of curiosity are planted throughout our curriculum and continue to flourish way beyond the school gates.

We seek to open children's minds to 'possibility' which is why all children learn to play the violin in Year 2, we introduce the subject of classics, in addition to our french provision, and all Year 4 children learn about strategy through developing chess skills. Violin project

Our subject leaders are deliberately chosen with their expertise and passion for a subject as we believe that enthusiasm to champion a particular curriculum area, whether for children or colleagues, enhances practice and promotes joyful learning. We eagerly work with outside experts to inspire children e.g.  professional artists, musicians, other speakers, and use our parental body to extend learning (mystery scientists - medics, engineers etc-  'dropped in' to share their occupations during science week).

Frequent opportunities for performance are built progressively (e.g Festival presentations, Nativity, school pantomime, Youth Speaking competitions, presentations of learning) into the curriculum as, although wonderful experiences in their own right, these things develop confidence, risk-taking, managing nerves, team work and presentational skills which are are often necessary for success in later life.

Our commitment to live with love and purpose can be seen in the weaving of the UN Sustainable Goals into our lessons as we seek to instil in children the importance of responsibility and moral decision making as global citizens. As a church school in a vibrant community, we are fortunate to be able to use our local setting to enhance children's learning, whether looking at the development of the village through a history trail with a local historian, participating in activities at our local farmlink school in Wrington or visiting our foundation church to deepen our understanding of remembrance or Advent.Remembrance
